About Trigonometry

Trigonometry is the math associated with triangles, polygonal shapes containing 3 sides and 3 corners. The math related to these shapes is ancient, and also links with other areas of math, both within and outside of geometry, as well as other sciences. Much of the math used to describe triangles can be adapted to analyze other shapes, and also other scientific phenomena.

About Trigonometry

Different topics in trigonometry and how simple prinicples can be used to analyze triangles.

Triangle Basics

The basics of triangles and the terminology used to describe them and parts of them, and the key properties that they have, which while very basic, underpin the math used to analyze triangles.

Geometry of Triangles

Triangles have particular geometric properties, which you can see here.

Pythagorean Theorem

The Pythagorean theorem is a theorem that describes how the sides of a right triangle relate to one another.

Basic Trigonometric Functions

Many applications in trigonometry use a number of trigonometric functions. The most widely known of these functions are sine (sin), cosine (cos), and tangent (tan), and these have applications all over trigonometry.

Trigonometry Laws

Laws in trigonometry and how they relate to different shapes of triangles.

SOHCAHTOA

SOHCAHTOA is a mnemonic that describes how the trigonometry functions define how the lengths of sides and angles of corners of a right triangle relate to one another.

Sine Law

Sine law is a law about how the sides and corners of triangles relate to one another using the sine function, and how this can be used to derive missing information about the triangle.

Cosine Law

Cosine law is another law about how the sides and corners of triangles relate to one another using the cosine function. This can be used to derive missing information about a triangle when given other information about it.

Angles

Angles are important in trigonometry and solving trigonometry problems.

Dependent Angles

Using geometry, certain angles can be calculated based on other angles, if they are connected by lines with certain properties. This can be useful for solving trigonometry problems.
